Dent:Explore Miami

  • Cardozo South Beach 1300 Ocean Drive Miami Beach, FL, 33139 United States (map)

Dent:Explore events are more intimate gatherings that combine talks, workshops, and local exploration over the course of three days. Mixing activities with in-depth workshops, interactive sessions, and dining experiences, the blend of scheduled and intentionally unscheduled time allows us to absorb and process the skills and perspectives that push us in our development and allow us to get out of our heads.

Whether you're looking for inspiration or just some time away from the daily grind, Dent:Explore Miami offers the perfect opportunity to explore and reset.

We are excited to announce that our Miami:Explore will be held at the historic (and beautiful!) Cardozo Hotel South Beach. South Beach has pristine beaches and the famous oceanfront neighborhood is full of world-class shopping, historic architecture and hidden gems, including clandestine speakeasy bars and some of the best restaurants in Miami. The Cardozo is part of the Art Deco District, recognized by the National Register of Historic Places.

Scroll below for the schedule as it now stands. Note for scheduling: we’re planning an optional SCUBA/snorkel excursion at 1 PM on the 16th - so if you’d like to add that to your exploration, you may want to check in on the 15th (more details to come). We’ll be visiting the world’s largest human-made reef, the Neptune Memorial Reef. It’s an amazing ecological achievement as well as a fascinating tribute to those past.

Space is limited, so sign up today to join us in Miami!

Speakers Include:

Marie Berry on Founding, Funding, and What Comes After

Marie Berry is a prominent member of the Miami startup community. Besides her role as a mother of two, she is best known as a successful serial entrepreneur, angel investor, and VC. Born in Bolivia and raised in Europe, she came to the U.S. in 2015 after spending six years working in China. Her journey, while certainly marked by achievement, also punctuates her strengths of adaptability and resilience.

At Dent: Explore, Marie will delve into the key lessons she has learned from her varied roles in the domain of entrepreneurship, and she will explore the insights that are now defining the next phase of her life as she pursues personal fulfillment in the years ahead. Her personal journey provides an opportunity to understand how completing what you set out to do isn’t always the goal, as well as the process of making what is likely the most important “pivot” of your life.

Natalia Martínez-Kalínina Discusses the Future of Work

Natalia works primarily at the intersection of entrepreneurship, technology, economic progress, and urban development and is deeply passionate about connecting across geographies and funding gaps, specifically in Latin America.

Chris Adamo

Chris Adamo on Angel Syndicates

Many early stage founders now get their first capital from angel syndicates, micro VCs, or “solo GPs”. What are those, and how does one invest in or receive funding from these entities?

Chris Adamo of Flamingo Capital, a syndicate on AngelList, will explain the intricacies of the newest approaches to early stage funding, how people can participate as investors, and what entrepreneurs should know about these investment structures when they go to raise money.

Chris is also a founding partner of Social Venture Partners Miami, a non-profit fund focused on strategic investments in Miami’s social impact organizations.

He co-founded the #MiamiTech Happy Hour and, as per the New York Times, is called the “Pied Piper for the Miami Tech community.”  See below for more about the MiamiTech Happy Hour.

Photo walk with photographer Asa Mathat

”A camera is the save button for the mind’s eye” photo walk: Bring a camera - no matter the type - as we walk through South Beach and find inspiring places and spaces to capture this one-of-a-kind locale.

Guided and coached by renowned photographer Asa Mathat, we will begin on Ocean Drive, known for its well-preserved art deco architecture, and will proceed through the area to see what we can find. As we soak in our surroundings, we will stop to take a closer look at the world beneath our feet as we offer the opportunity to get some fantastic snapshots of the Miami scene.

Wednesday night, we’ll be special guests at the #MiamiTech Happy Hour (6:00 – 9:00 at Freehold). Hosted by Natalia Martínez-Kalínina and Chris Adamo, this regular get-together brings together new and old Miamians “connecting with fellow entrepreneurs, investors, tech folks, and a diverse group of awesome people.” This will be a great way to meet local folks and learn more about what’s going on in Miami.

Book club: more details to follow, but we are planning a group discussion around favorite recent - and possibly all-time - books. We’re still working on the details, but in the meantime, consider what books you’ve loved recently. We’re leaning towards non-fiction, as has been the Dent tradition.

Hotel reservations at the Cardozo Hotel: We have negotiated a terrific rate of just $199 a night and you can reserve your room by calling the hotel at (786) 577-7600 and mention that you are with the Dent group. Since we are planning an optional snorkel/SCUBA cruise for the adventurous among us, at 1:00pm on the afternoon of Jan 16th (more to come on that front) you may want to check-in on the 15th. Otherwise, we will begin the official festivities on the evening of the 16th. We highly recommend you book as soon as possible.
